Outlook lies like a rug. We don't accept mixed plain / html messages. I don't have the time to investigate all possible mail agaents, but here's someone who has.

If you have the Internet Mail Only version of Outlook 2000

Create an address book entry for each PEG list address you mail to and click the box which says send mail in plain text.

I use Outlook and I have to do two things to send mail to the PEG.
First I go to the "Format" menu and click "Plain Text".
Then I go to the file menu and choose "properties". I click on the "send options" button and click "UUEncode".

Outlook XP

You'll need to create a "Contact" for each address you're sending to. Once you have them setup, double-click the email address field in the Contact editor. This opens a dialog, select "Send Plain Text" from the Internet Format combo-box.

This was very easy to find in Outlook 2000, but thankfully Microsoft decided that things that smart people need belong buried deep within the bowels of their software. Thank goodness for that.

What if you're using Lotus CC Mail, you ask

  1. Select "Mail Gateway Properties" from the "Server Menu"
  2. Select "Export Plain Text" forces message bodies to plain text.
